Dulce María Espinosa Saviñón or just Dulce Maria is a mexican singer, songwriter, actress and author.
Early Life and Family
Born on 6th December 1985, in Mexico City, Federal State. She has two sisters Blanca Ireri and Claudia. She is a grand-niece of mexican painter Frida Kahlo. She started doing commercials as a child, beginning her career at 5 years old. She has since participated in over 100 commercials. At age 8, she was cast in Plaza Sesamo in 1993. Later on she was cast in El Club de Gaby and various specials on the mexican Discovery Kids channel.
She started her music career in 1996 at age 11 as a part of the music group K.I.D.S during which she released her hit single Beautiful featuring Akon. She left the group alongside then boyfriend Daniel Habif to form the group D&D. This group recorded 5 songs together however they split up pretty quickly, and for unknown reasons at that. Maria joined the latina pop group Jeans, replacing Angie in early 2000. However she left the group in 2002 after landing the main role of Marcela Mejía in the 2002 telenovela, Clase 206.
After this she started acting and got a lead role in Rebelde(2004-06). The series was hit enough to launch RBD consisting of the line up of Dulce, Maite Perroni, Christian Chávez, Alfonso Herrera and Christopher von Uckermann. The group made 9 studio album and to date have sold over 20 million albums worldwide. However on August 15th of 2008 the group released a message telling fans that they have split up. Following this breakup Maria signed with Universal Music and announced to be recording as a solo artist from 2009.
In 2009 she recorded two songs Verano and Déjame Ser for the novela Verano de Amor. She also collaborated with Akon to remix his song Beautiful, which they performed at that year’s radio concert, El Evento 40.
In 17th May of next year she released her first solo single Inevitable, the music video for which was released on 24th May. She also voiced for the character Ilyena Faustin in Grand Theft Auto(GTA) IV.
Her solo album Extranjera which was supposed to release on September was release in November the same year as a two part album named Extranjera Primera Parte and the Extranjera Segunda Parte,which released in the summer the next year, both consisting of 7 tracks each with the second containing DvD with extra. The first part featured the single Inevitable and the second one featured a new single Ya No.
In 2016 she began recording her third album DM, which was released in March the next year. In 2018, she announced her next album Origen which is set to release in 2019.
As mentioned earlier Maria starred in Clase 406(2002) and Rebelde(2004-06). The latter would go on to be a hit worldwide going over 400 episodes. In 2006 she received the TV Y Novelas award for Best Young Telenovela Actress for her work in Rebelde.
The next year in 2007, following the success of Rebelde Televisa released RBD: La Familia, starring the members of RBD. The show ran from March 14- June 17 of 2007 airing only 13 episode.
In 2009 she featured in Telenovela Verano de Amor, for which she received the People En Español in 2010. In 2013, Dulce starred in a return to the telenovela in Mentir para Vivir. In 2016, Dulce starred as the first antagonist role debut in the telenovela Corazón que miente. In 2018, Dulce starred in the telenovela Muy padres.
In September of 2009 she was chosen by Google, Save the Children and Chicos.com ro represent the campaign of Technology Yes, which promoted the good use of internet among young people. In October the same year she created her own foundation Fundación Dulce Amanecer whose objective was to contribute to social causes like supporting indigenous women and caring for the environment. She received the Pro Social Award of the Kids Choice Awards Mexico from Nickelodeon Latin America.
She gave a lecture on the theme Friendship in Expo Joven 2010.
She appeared in a PETA video discouraging people from attending circuses that use animals in 2015. On July 2018, Dulce Maria joined Peta campaign against SeaWorld.
She formed the group D&D with then boyfriend Daniel Habif. However they split after recording 5 songs. In 2006 she began a relation with mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, with whom she split up in a year.
She was named among the Top 50 most beautiful by People En Español in 2007 and 2010.
