Elena Jane Goulding, better known as Ellie Goulding is an English singer and songwriter.
Born on 30 December 1986 in Hereford, and was the second of four children. She was raised in Lyonshall, a small village near Kington, Herefordshire. She began playing the clarinet at age 9, and by 14 was playing the guitar. Elena attended the Lady Hawkins’ High School, Kington where she started writing songs by 15. She took A level in English, Politics, Drama and Music and passes them all with “A” grade, except for in Music in which she failed. Yup, I’m not joking. It’s almost kind of a thing now.
Later on she enrolled at the University of Kent for her degree in Drama and Theatre Studies.
Elena began her career after meeting record producers Starsmith and Frankmusik and also later spotted by Jamie Lillywhite, who went on to become her manager and A&R. She signed with the Polydor Records and released an EP, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding in 2009. She became the second artist to top BBC’s annual ‘Sound of…’ poll.
Elena released her debut album Lights, in March 2010. The album debut at No. 1 in the UK album Charts. The album was reissued in November of that year as Bright Lights, with two more singles which was a cover of Elton John’s “Your Song”.
She released a second EP, Run Into The Light in August of 2010 that contained remixes of her songs from Lights. She toured for the album from May 2010 performing in numerous Festivals like the Dot to Dot Festival, Bristol on 29 May, the Glastonbury Festival in 25 June,and many more. In early 2011 she recorded a song for the film Life in a Day(2011).
On 8 October 2012, Elena released her second album Halcyon.The singles included in this album had been released or introduced pretty early n, including “I Need Your Love” with Calvin Harris. She contributed to the track “Bittersweet” which was a soundtrack of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 2(2012). She then toured including a support to Bruno Mars in his Moonshine Jungle World Tour. In August 2013, the repackaging of Halcyon was released as Halcyon Days with 10 additional tracks including the single Burn, which became Elena’s first single to top UK’s Official Single Chart. She kept on releasing music videos of her songs from the album in her youtube VEVO channel.
In early 2015, Elena released the song “Love Me Like You Do” which featured as a soundtrack tot the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey(2015). The single held the record for the most-streamed track in a single week in the United Kingdom (streamed 2.58 million times), and worldwide (streamed 15.5 million times) and also earned Ellie Grammy nominations. The song was part of her third album, Delirium released in 6 November of 2015.
She released the song “Still Falling For You” in August 2016 as a soundtrack to the film Bridget Jones’s Baby(2016).
Elena is working on her fourth studio album which she says is pretty much written by her. She’s collaborated with Sean Paul in his album, Mad Love the Prequel in 2018. Then with Swae Lee and Diplo for the single “Close to Me” which released in October 2018. On March of 2019 she released her single “Flux”, then “Hate Me” with Juice World in June.
Elena’s first music award is the “Sound of 2010” award she received from BBC Sound of… in 2010. She won the BMI London Awards 3 times between 2014-15. Goulding has won the Brit Critics’ Choice Award in 2010 and Best Female Solo the next year. IN total she has won 17 awards throughout her music career.
Elena ran the inaugural Nike Women Half marathon in Washington in 2013.
She has spoken on several occasions about her mental health issues as well as panic attacks caused because of the studio environment. Having discussed her ongoing confidence issue and severe anxiety she’s experienced she said that a fitness regime and boxing at the gym has helped her with the panic attack and anxiety.
Goulding got engaged to her boyfriend Caspar Jopling in 2018.
