Evan Rachel Wood Biography and Career

Evan Rachel Wood is an American model, actress, and musician born on September 7, 1987, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her father David Wood III is a locally prominent actor, theatre director, scriptwriter, singer, and the executive director of “Theater in the Park” which is a local regional theatre company. Her Sara Wood mother is a director, actress, and an acting coach. Her father belongs to a Christian family whereas her mother converted to Judaism. Wood also has a two older brother named Ira David Wood IV who is also an actor, Dana Wood who is a musician and a sister named Aden Wood.

Evan briefly went to Cary Elementary, which was a public school in Cary, North Carolina. During childhood, both Evan and her brother Ira used to be involved in their father “Theater in the Park”. Evan also appeared in her father’s comedy adaption of “A Christmas Carol” in 1987 when she was just a few months old. She also played the role of the Ghost of Christmas past in multiple plays in the theatre. Later, she starred in the production of “The Miracle Worker” as Helen Keller alongside her mother as Anne Sullivan. Her father directed the play.

At the age of nine, Evan’s parents got divorced and he along with her mother and brother Ira moved to Los Angeles, California, which was her mother’s native land. She began her career at the age of 7 by appearing on several TV films and series such as “American Gothic”, “Profiler” and “Once and Again”. In 1998, 11-year-old Evan got her first major role in the movie “Digging to China”. In the movie, she plays the role of Harriet Frankovitz alongside Kevin Bacon and Mary Stuart Masterson.  In the same year, she also appeared in the movie “Practical Magic” which was a fantasy movie directed by Griffin Dunne. She played the role of Sandra Bullock’s daughter in the movie. Evan was homeschooled and at the age of 15, she received her high school diploma.

In 2002, 15-year-old Evan debuted her lead role in the movie “Little Secrets” which was directed by Blair Treu. She played the role of Emily Lindstrom who was an ambitious 14-year0old concert violinist. She was also nominated for Best Leading Young Actress at the Young Artist Award for her role in the movie. In the same year, she also played a supporting role in the sci-fi drama “Simone” directed by Andrew Niccol. A year later, Evan starred in the movie “Thirteen” where she played the role of Tracy Louise Freeland. Her performance in the movie got her nomination for best Actress-Drama in the Golden Globe Awards and Best Actress in Screen Actor Guild Award. She was also named as one of the IT Girls of Hollywood by Vanity Fair and appeared on the cover of the magazine in July 2003, along with other actresses. In the same year, she also starred in the movie “The Missing” by Ron Howard. In the movie, she played the role of Lilly Gilkeson’s daughter who was kidnapped.

In 2005, Evan starred in the movie “Pretty Persuasion” which was a black comedy, which focused on attitude about females in the media and society and sexual harassment and discrimination in school. The movie premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. The movie was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in the film festival. In the same year, she also starred in the music video of “At the Bottom of Everything” by Bright Eyes and “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day.

In 2006, Evan was cast in the comedy-drama film “Running with Scissors” as Natalie Finch. The movie was based on a semi-autobiography of Augusten Burroughs’ childhood in a dysfunctional family. In 2008, Evan gave her voice to Mala an alien in an animation movie named “Battle for Terra”. Also in the same year, she starred in “The Wrestler” by Darren Aronofsky where she played the role of Mickey Rourke’s estranged daughter. Later, in 2011, she was nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie” at the Golden Globes and Emmy for her role of Veda Pierce in “Mildred Pierce”. In 2016, Evan did her third TV series with HBO titled “Westworld”.

In 2005, Evan Wood started dating the British actor Jamie Bell. They first met at the Sundance Film Festival and instantly connected. The pair also starred together in the music video of “Wake Me Up When September Ends”. The pair were so in love that they even got tattoos of each other’s initial. Evan got the tattoo of “J” on her left ankle. However, the couple only lasted for a year. In an interview, when Evans was asked about the tattoo she said that she did not regret it and it reminded her of a great period in her life.

In 2007, Evan Rachel Wood confirmed the dating rumors with Marilyn Manson who is an American musician. The same year, after they confirmed that they were dating, another rumor of them being engaged started. However, at the time, Marilyn was still married to Dita Von Teese and the rumors strained his marital life. In 2008, Evan announced that the pair were no longer in a relationship with each other.

After the announcement, Evan started dating the Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard. Alexander was 11 years older than Evan. The two first met at the set of “True Blood” and later Evan was seen visiting Alexander on the set of his new movie “Straw Dogs”. The couple dated for 1 year before splitting. Later in the same year, Evan got back to her former boyfriend Marilyn Manson. After a short time, Marilyn proposed to Evan and they became engaged in January 2010. However, their relationship did not last long and they split in the same year in August.

In the summer of 2011, Evan got back together with her first boyfriend Jamie Bell. The pair got back together after five years of their break up. After a year of dating, the couple finally tied the knot and got married on October 30, 2012. A year after their marriage, Evan gave birth to their first child, a son. Evans gave birth to her son naturally at home. However, the couple kept their son’s name private and still has not disclosed the name. Sadly, the pair filed a divorce at the end of May in 2014. The pair also said that they would remain close friends and commit to co-parent their son.

In 2016, Evan started dating the American musician Zach Villa. The pair started dating in the month of June 2016. The two first met in 2015, when they starred together at a John Hughes themed cabaret. After dating for 7 months, the pair was engaged in January 2017.  The pair were spotted wearing silver bands on their ring finger when they attended the 2017 SAG Awards.
