Jim Parsons is an American actor famously known for his role of Sheldon Cooper in the CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory”. He was born on March 24, 1973, in Houston, Texas, USA. His father was Milton Joseph Parsons and his mother Judy Ann is a teacher. He also has a sister named Julie Ann Parsons who is also a teacher. His father passed away on April 29, 2001.

During childhood, Parsons went to the Klein Oak High School. During the time, he took part in a drama “Noises Off” about which he said, “I fully connected with the role I was playing and started to truly understand what it meant to be honest on stage.” He also took part in a school production named “The Elephant’s Child” at the age of 6 and played the role of Kola-Kola bird. Parsons was interested in acting from childhood and was highly influenced by the sitcom “Three’s Company”, “The Cosby Show” and “Family Ties”.

After completing high school, Parsons attended the University of Houston and received a bachelor’s degree. During his time in the University, he performed in a total of 17 plays in just 3 years. Later, in 1999, Parsons attended the graduate school at the University of San Diego. He was one of the seven students who was selected for a special two-year course in classical theatre. In an interview, the program director Rick Seer said “Jim is a very specific personality. He’s thoroughly original, which is one reason he’s been so successful. But we worried, ‘Does that adapt itself to classical theater, does that adapt itself to the kind of training that we’re doing?’ But we decided that he was so talented that we would give him a try and see how it worked out.” In 2001, he graduated from the University and then moved to New York City.

Later, Parsons auditioned for the role and the creator of the series Chuck Lorre was so impressed by his performance that he was called for a second audition. It was obvious that after two auditions, Parsons would get the role of Sheldon who is a physicist. In 2009, Parsons received his first Television Critics Association award for individual achievement in comedy. He was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards from the year 2009 to 2014 simultaneously and won the award in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014. Parsons also won the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Television Series – Comedy in 2011 for his role in the series.
