Kendrick Lamar is an American rapper and songwriter. His father Kenny Duckworth was a member of Gangster Disciples which is a street gang and his mother Paula Oliver is a homemaker. His name was kept by his mother as an honor to the American singer and songwriter Eddie Kendricks. After his birth, his family moved to Chicago to escape the gang culture in the city.
Growing up, Lamar was around dangerous streets due to the increased presence of the West Coast gang. However, instead of being harmed, Lamar was more influenced by the activities. At the age of 8, Lamar saw the filming of the music video of the hit single “California Love” by Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre which had a great influence on his life.
Lamar went to the McNair Elementary and later in the Compton Unified School District. During his schooling, Lamar was very good at his studies and loved writing stories, poems, and lyrics. Lamar was also featured in Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” and also appeared in the music video. Later, Lamar won five Grammy awards including Best Tap Album for his third album. Later, Lamar released another album “Untitled Unmastered” which contained eight untitled track. When asked about it, Lamar said that they were the unfinished demos of the track in “To Pimp a Butterfly”. On March 2017, Lamar released the lead single “Humble” from his next album “Damn”. On April 14, 2017, the album was released and became Lamar’s third number one album on the Billboard 200 chart. The lead single ranked number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
