Lena Heady is a British actress, producer and voice actress, famous for her role Cersei Lannister in the HBO hit series “Game Of Thrones”. She was born on October 3, 1973, in Hamilton, Bermuda, UK. Her father John Heady is a Yorkshire police officer and her mother was Sue Heady. She also has a younger brother named Tim Heady. When she was 5, her family had to move to Somerset, England. Then, at the age of 11, her family moved again across the country to Shelley, West Yorkshire.

During childhood, Heady tool ballet lessons but later her family stopped her from going to the lessons. Initially, Heady wanted to become a hairdresser. However, as she grew up, she developed a love for movies and an interest in acting. Later she went to Shelley College where she studied acting. Heady first experienced acting at the college. At the age of 17, she was stopped by a casting agent when she performed in the production of Royal National Theatre and was offered the supporting role in the movie “Waterland”.

Career

In 1992, Heady made her debut in the film industry with the movie “Waterland” where she played the role of Young Mary. The movie was based on the novel of the same name by Graham Swift in 1983 and grossed average at the box office. The following year, she appeared in a small role in the movie “The Remains of the Day” which was nominated for 8 Academy Awards.

In 1994, Heady played the role of Katherine in the Disney movie “The Jungle Book”. The movie received mostly positive reviews and grossed nearly 44 million dollars in the United States. Heady also received positive reviews for her performance. In 1997, Heady starred in the romantic drama “Mrs. Dalloway” and the high profile movie “Onegin”. In 1998, Heady starred in the lead role in “Aberdeen” for which she received a lot of positive reviews and earned the Silver Iris Award for Best Actress in 2001. The movie received mixed reviews and when Heady was asked about her character, she said “I loved the fact that she was a tomboy. That is what attracted me to her, that she wasn’t this predictable female character in this big film. You meet her and she is masking who she is. I loved that her environment dictated who she is. She lives and grows up and survives in the forest. Terry and I talked about how her instincts are almost animalistic and she can see 360 degrees around her. She is aware of what is going on. In the same year, she also starred in the movies such as romantic comedy “Imagine Me & You” and action horror “The Cave”. The latter one was poorly received at the box-office whereas the first one received a lot of positive reviews. In the movie, Heady plays the role of a lesbian and was highly praised for her performance. In 2006, Heady was cast as Queen Gorgo in the movie “300”. In the movie, Heady had to do many nudes scenes and in an interview when she was asked how she felt she said: “It’s always weird the thought of taking your clothes off in front of 20 people and then to have it projected in front of many more”. In another interview, she explained “I think it was necessary because we only get that scene to establish their relationship. It is a very obvious moment but I think it does it in quite a beautiful way.”

Heady also played the title role in the TV series “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” which is a spin-off show of the popular Terminator franchise. She played the role of Sarah Connor for more than a year from the beginning of 2008 to April 2009. For her performance in the show, she was nominated two times for the Best Actress on Television at the Saturn Awards. In the time duration, Heady also starred in the horror thriller “The Broken” as Gina McVey and “Tell Tale” as Elizabeth. She has also given her voice to the character Black Widow and Mystic in an episode of the Cartoon Network TV series “The Super Hero Squad Show”.

In 2011, Heady was cast in the HBO hit series “Game Of Thrones” as queen regent Cersei Lannister. The show premiered in April 2011 and was based on the novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R. R. Martin. Her performance was a critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Fantasy Actress in the Scream Awards and Outstanding Supporting Actress in Drama Series in Emmy Awards. During the shooting of the first season of the show, Heady was pregnant with her son Wylie. However, the production team was so impressed by her performance that they decided to work around it instead of recasting the role. So, in the entire season the cameras were kept above her waist and for wider scenes, she wore the costumes with large billowing sleeves which hid her pregnancy. She later appeared in movies and shows such as “White Collar”, “Dredd”, “The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box”, “The Purge”, “The Mortal Instrument: City of Bones”, “300: Rise of an Empire”, “Zipper”, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and many more.

Heady’s first boyfriend was the British actor Jason Flemyng. The pair date for a long 9 years of time. The two first met at the set of “The Jungle Book”’ and became good friends. After some time, the two began dating each other. Heady also got a tattoo on her arms saying “Jason” in Thai. The two dated from 1994 to 2003. After coming out of the long relationship, she started dating British Actor Jerome Flynn. The two dated for about a year. Both of them currently work in the HBO series “Game of Thrones”, Heady as Cersei and Jerome as Bronn.
