Natalie Dormer is a British actress most famous for her roles as Anne Boleyn in “The Tudors” and as Margaery Tyrell in HBO hit series “Game Of Thrones”. She was born on February 11, 1982, in Reading, England. Her father is Gary Dormer and mother is Claire Richard. She grew up with her mother and step-father along sister Samantha and brother Mark. Dormer’s name was actually originated from Latin name Natalia which meant “birth of Lord”.

During childhood, Dormer attended the Chiltern Edge Secondary School and later transferred to Reading Blue Coat School. Initially, the school was an all-boys school but later it admitted girls in the sixth form. According to Dormer, she was bullied in her school but didn’t know why till date. During school, Dormer became the head girl a first-class student, vice-captain of the school netball team, and traveled the world with the public speaking team of her school.

Dormer also took dancing classes at the Allenova School of Dance. Later she was offered a to study history at Cambridge but couldn’t achieve grade A in her A-level History exam. Later she auditioned for a drama school and enrolled in the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.

Career

After graduation, Dormer made her debut in the movie in the role of Victoria in “Casanova”. The movie released in 2005. Initially, her role had a very small part but the director of the movie was very much impressed by her acting skills that they expanded her part. In the same year, she played a small role in the movie “Distant Shores”. After that, Dormer did an independent movie which was postponed multiple times due to financial problems. So, Dormer had to work as a waitress and do data entry to support herself. In an interview, she said about her being out of work “was the best lesson I could have had in the first 12 months of my career”.

In 2007, Dormer was cast in the role of Anne Boleyn in the TV series “The Tudors”. For the performance, Dormer was highly praised by the critics and she played the role for the first two seasons from 2007 to 2008. She later played roles in Agatha Christie’s Marple: “Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?”, “City of Life”, and  “Incendiary”. In 2010. Dormer made her debut on stage with the play “Sweet Nothings” at the Young Vic theatre in London. Her performance was praised by the critics and received a lot of positive reviews.

In 2012, Dormer was cast for the role of Margaery Trell in the HBO hit series “Game Of Throne”. Dormer also earned the Ewwy Award for Best Supporting Actress – Drama for her performance in the third season. She played the role form 2012 to 2016 as the character dies in the sixth season. In an interview, she said “Well during the first season, Alfie (Allen), Richard (Madden), and several of the men got naked — although not all the way. I suppose it’s just the rules of broadcast television, isn’t it? I think Thrones has been better than your average show with the equality, but they could definitely ramp it up! Absolutely”. In 2015, the entire cast was awarded the Empire Hero Award by “Empire” the British film magazine. In 2012, Dormer also played the title role in the play “After Miss Julie” at the Young Vic. Her performance got critical acclaims and a lot of positive reviews form the audience. The following year, she played the role of Lady Door in the radio play “Neverwhere” which was based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. She also appeared in the car racing drama “Rush”, thriller “The Counselor”, “A Long Way From Home”, and “Elementary”.

Later, Dormer was cast in the role of Cressida in the movie “The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay- Part 1” and “The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay- Part 2” which are the sequels of the hit movie “The Hunger Games”. In 2017, Dormer starred in the horror movie “The Forest” which was directed by Jason Zada, multiple award-winning music video, and short-film director.

Relationship

Since 2007, Natalie Dormer has been dating the Irish Director Anthony Byrne. The two first met on the set of “The Tudors”.  The two fell in love while the shooting process. However, in an interview, she said that initially, she had struggled to understand Byrne’s Irish slang, “There were translation issues at the beginning of the relationship but we worked through them. We’re the personification of the Anglo-Irish agreement.” Since then, the two has kept their relationship very private. They always remain low-key when they are out together. After dating for four years, Byrne finally proposed to Dormer.

However, the news of marriage has not been revealed to the media. In an interview, she said “It’s such a thing, right? So many little girls dream about their wedding day, but with actresses, sometimes it’s the inverse, because we get to be the center of attention, looked up and down, dressed up for premieres all the time. The pull isn’t quite as great.”

Unfortunately,  Natalie Dormer and Anthony Byrne have split after 11 years together, according to an interview with the Game of Thrones star that New Statesman published on Nov. 21, 2018.
