Rita Ora is an English singer and actress born on November 26, 1990, in Pristina, SFR Yugoslavia, currently known as Kosovo. Her father Besnik Sahatçiu is a pub owner and an economist and her mother Vera Sahatçiu is a psychiatrist. Both of her parents are Albanian and she is the middle child of her parents. She has an elder sister named Elena and a younger brother named Don. Her surname Sahatçiu means “watchmaker” in Turkish and later her family added the surname “Ora” which means “Time” in Albanian so that it is easier to pronounce.

Later, when Ora was a year old, her family moved and settled in London, England as, at the time, the persecution of Albanians was initiated with the disintegration of Yugoslavia. Ora grew up near Portobello road in West London. She attended St Cuthbert with St Matthias Primary School in Earls Court. Later, she graduated from Sylvia Young Theatre School. From childhood, Ora wanted to become a singer and practiced singing every day.

Int the beginning, Rita used to perform at the open mic sessions around London and sometimes in her father’s pub. At the age of 17, Ora appeared in her first song in the track “Awkward” by Craig David. The following year, she appeared on “Where’s Your Love” featuring Tinchy Stryder, however, she was officially credited in neither of the songs. She was later featured in two songs “Songs for You”  and “Truth for Me” by James Morrison as a backing vocalist.

During Eurovision 2009

In 2008, Ora audition for “Eurovision: Your Country Needs You” on BBC One so that she can participate in the “Eurovision Song Contest 2009”. Despite, her being selected, she decided not to do the show as she felt that the competition was not for her. Later, her manager Sarah Stennett got in touch with Roc Nation which is an American label and told them about Ora. The label then signed her for a deal in 2008. Later, Ora made a cameo in the music video for “Young Forever” by Jay Z in 2009 and “Over” by Drake in 2010.

In 2011, Rita worked in her debut album and released series of cover video and video was about her work on YouTube. During the time, one of the videos caught the attention of DJ Fresh who was in search of a female vocalist at the time. After that, he contacted Ora for his song “Hot Right Now” which was later released in February 2012 and topped the UK Singles charts. On May 6, 2012, Ora released her first song titled “R.I.P” featuring Tinie Tempah from her debut album. The song topped the UK Singles chart becoming her first solo song on number one in the UK. After two months, she released another song from the album titled “How We Do (Party)” and topped the charts in UK and Ireland. She also announced that her first album’s titled would be “Ora” and it was later released on August 21, 2012.

In the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards, Ora was nominated for the Best Artist, Best UK/Ireland Act, and Push Artist. On October 23, 2012, Ora started her first tour titled Ora Tour which was a mini-concert around the US. The tour was a week long. On November, Ora released the song “Shine Ya Light” which ranked on the top ten list in the UK. The following year, she carried out her first UK tour as “Radioactive Tour” to support her debut album. She was later nominated for British Breakthrough Act and two nominations for the British Single of the Year at the 2013 Brit Award.

On May 18, 2014, Ora released the song “I Will Never Let You Down” from her next album which topped the UK Singles chart and became her third topped song as a solo artist. Later, she was featured on the song “Black Widow” by Iggy Azalea which became Ora’s first song to reach the US Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. In the same year, she appeared in an episode of the series “Funny or Die”.

In 2015, Ora filed a lawsuit against Roc-Nation or her released from the label. She stated that she has “only been permitted to release one album despite creating multiple additional records for release”. The following year, the label filed a counter-lawsuit against Ora for breaking her contract. However, they finally reached a settlement in 2016. She also played the role of Mia in the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey” which is an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name.

After two years of break, Ora finally released her solo single “Your Song” on May 26, 2017. The song reached number seven on the UK charts. Recently, Ora has released a single with Liam Payne for the movie “Fifty Shade Freed” and the song was titled “For You”. In 2009, Rita Ora used to date American singer Bruno Mars. At the time both of them were struggling for success. In an interview with the German magazine Bravo, Ora said that it was love at first sight “We met in 2009. I was 18 and starting out at Roc Nation. Bruno was unknown back then too. He was a struggling songwriter hired to write songs for me. I thought: ‘Wow, that’s just the world’s greatest guy!’”. The pair dated for two years and the separated. Rita also mentioned that the two are not going together but “Our time together was wonderful. But once we got famous, work got in the way. We ended it last year. But we remained close.”

In 2011, Ora started dating the American Reality TV star Rob Kardashian, brother of Kim Kardashian. The two dated for more than a year and split up. However, their break up was a very messy one as Rob took it to Tweeter and posted many mean tweets about his ex and abusive messages. He also wrote “She cheated on me with nearly 20 dudes while we were together. I am actually disgusted.” In an interview, when asked about how she felt and was it hurtful, Ora replied “No. Nooooo. To tell you the truth I don’t put energy toward things that don’t need light. You don’t need it.” She later posted on Tweeter “Rob’s d**k was wack, I had to go get it somewhere else.” And Rob Retweeted it with the comment ‘So you let me get you pregnant and you let others hit raw?’

In 2013, Ora started dating the British Electronic Musician Calvin Harris. The two dated for more than a year. According to Ora, Calvin was the first person she actually fell in love with. The two has also collaborated in the song “I Will Never Let You Down” which was a hit. However, Calvin used the social media to break up with Ora which she was unaware of. Calvin posted in Tweeter ‘To address speculation – myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman & I wish her all the best. One of the sources told ‘Rita was left embarrassed when he tweeted that it was all over. She didn’t think he was going to make the announcement, so she was shocked.’ Another source said ‘Calvin likes more privacy than Rita and he hated the extra attention that came with being her boyfriend.’ Currently, in an interview, Rita said that the two were now in good terms.

In 2015, Ora started dating the American Rapper Ricky Hil. The two were first spotted holding hand when the fans started speculating. The two started dating just after a week of her break up with Calvin. Later, Ricky even temporarily moved to London to accompany Ora. The two confirmed their relationship by posting the same black and white picture of the two holding hands. However, after dating for a year, the pair decided to split and took a mutual decision. Ora also briefly dated the American Drummer Travis Barker at the end of 2015. Later in 2016, Ora started dating the British Auto Racer Lewis Hamilton. The two had been friends for a very long time. It was confirmed that the two were dating when they were spotted leaving Ora’s London home together. The two were also seen very close to each other at the Grand Prix Victory party. Also the next morning, they were spotted wearing matching clothes. The pair then dated for a year and split up.

In 2016, Ora also briefly dated the English singer James Authur. The following year, Ora started dating the British socialite Tyrone Wood. According to two, the two had been secretly dating and one said “Rita likes Tyrone because, unlike some of her exes, he’s a one-woman man and not fame-hungry. He does a lot of work for charity too and she finds that really attractive. And she has been really supportive of that.” The pair dated for almost a year and recently separated. Currently, Ora is single.
